the next day to the frankenpots we combined the first two projects and started making the third. I have never made a frank pot before so it was peculiar learning how to, as it was much easier than I thought it was going to be. You score both sides the the project and add slip to the projects, and from there you just set the middle project on top and combine. This reinforced my skills with using slip and scoring.
Today we started our frankenpots! We made the base of the project today on the wheel, of which I did.(first picture below) Then my partner made the middle to the project, which is shown on the second picture. Tomorrow we will make our third and final part of the Frankenpot and then combine them all together! This reinforced my skills in using the measuring tool in order to make the middle project able to fit into the base.
I tried to make a wheel altered project today, and tried to make a heart shape in the project. By creating negative space, the shape of the project is changed. However, I want to keep creating more wheel altered projects to create a seriously altered project that has specific movements and shape.
On the wheel today I created a small bowl just to add to my collection. I reinforced my shaping skills when throwing, in order to make bowl shapes for things such as cereal, salsa, and chip bowls. This bowl may be small, but starting small can aid one to making larger things.
My tall project was glazed with a mixture of turquoise and white. I tried to water down the white in order to make a foggy look around the turquoise. While glazing my tall project I remembered how collecting a lot of glaze at the bottom of the project will possibly end in cracks. Also, I reinforced knowing which colors go well together, and which ones do not.
Glazing my lidded project was interesting, as I wanted to do something more than just color it one solid color. I decided to be risky and dip the vase into the scrap black. Then, rather than doing the lid scrap black, too, I dipped it into a scrap blue. Glazing reinforces the skills one must have in order to make their project "pretty' and stand out from the rest.
